The essence of Scott Tobin's artistic pursuits can be summed up in what he calls, “Visual Antidepressants.” Tobin's playful and gritty approach to art is infused with strokes of beauty that have earned him the reputation as one of Canada's finest urban contemporary artists.

A highly stylized artist with prolific and expanding range, Tobin's work includes large-scale interior/exterior wall murals, fine art, and live painting performances. Nineteen years experience with spray paint has led him to be one of Canada's top character graffiti artists. Educated in Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Tobin combines his imaginative approach to visual art with well-developed techniques using oil, oil bars, acrylic, pastel, chalk, charcoal, ink, aerosol and watercolor.

Growing up in urban environments in Toronto and Halifax has significantly formed his approach to visual art. His punchy, vibrant, ethereal and soulful work has transformed those same urban spaces, injecting concrete environments with playfully conscious encounters of the natural world. While animated flowers, birds and other glimpses into organic life have become trademark Tobin subjects, his pursuit of visual antidepressants includes character portraits and word pieces as well.

His work ranges from canvas commissions for private collectors, small businesses, large corporations to festivals and music events. Tobin collaborates with DJ's and musical groups doing live art at events. He is well liked for his extroverted personality as he socializes with curious on-lookers. Tobin has participated in the prominent graffiti events Under Pressure (Montreal), 416 Jam (Toronto) and Style in Progress (Toronto). Whatever the environment, Tobin says, “It is my passion to paint visual-antidepressants, to create beautiful work that has a positive impact on people and a positive contribution to the world.”

Previous work includes contracts with Bell, Telus, Race Face, Specialized, Red Bull, City of Toronto, Whistler Arts Council, City of Kelowna and City of Halifax to name a few. His current sponsor is Gravis (Burton). Tobin's work is recognized on a world level. A private international collector commented, “I am grateful for what Scott Tobin gives the world: soulful strokes of love.”

In spring 2007 and 2008, Tobin painted a Pontiac G6 (2007) and Solstice (2008) on location at the Whistler World Ski and Snowboard Festival, drawing thousands of onlookers for highly effective promotion. In recent years, Tobin has been named, "Artist to the Extreme Sports" since his work has taken him to ski hills like Kicking Horse, Whistler/Blackcomb and Mount Washington. His style and experience continues to take bike and snowboard parks across British Columbia to the next level.

Tobin has been hired to paint murals that discourage unwanted graffiti. Paul MacKinnon, (Halifax Business Association) says they hired Tobin to paint large murals because of the level of respect he has earned in the graffiti community. In summer 2007, Tobin showed high dedication, energy and creativity as noted by Sandra Kochan (Kelowna's Public Art Committee) through creating a 160 foot by 24 foot mural for the city with students from Springvalley Middle School. Kochan goes on to say, “It meant so much to me to have solid, organized people I could trust on the ground to make the project happen.”

Ryan Stapells, (The Attic Night Club) says, “Tobin's style is fresh and clean and he has a talent for urban design. Whether painting vegetables on the outside of a restaurant, or painting a picture of a DJ with turntables in a club, Scott is versatile and he can adapt his artistic style to satisfy any request. I would recommend Tobin to anybody who is looking for an excellent artist.”
